The 2004 release of the blockbuster "Spiderman 2" (Sony /Columbia), as the first 4K Digital Intermediate, is changing the way movies are made.
4K DI is a breakthrough that offers a new level of quality and flexibility for creating and preserving motion picture assets.
4K DI delivers 50MB of data per 35mm film frame, four times the data of 2K. This obviously creates higher quality films with the added value of an ultimate Data Master. This 4K Data Master is the scalable common denominator for distribution in all media, 35mm film, Digital Cinema Projection, DVD, Standard Video and YCM Archival elements.
EFILM is the only facility that has delivered multiple 4K titles.
"The workflow is transparent. It is no different than a 2K DI except for the superior quality of the images and the ability to preserve them", said Stephan Goldblatt, ASC, BSC, Director of Photography for Revolution Studios, "Rent", about his experience working at EFILM on this film.
Major studios are embracing the 4K solution and EFILM is currently finishing five 4K DI's for the following studios.
"Casanova" Disney Studios
"Jarhead", Universal Pictures
"Stealth', Sony/Columbia
"Rent", Revolution Studios
"Family Stone", Fox.
EFILM President, Joe Matza noted, "EFILM exists to create the best images possible for our clients and we're very aware of the importance of an efficient workflow. Our team has delivered a technically superior process and a seamless experience for our clients."
